Indonesia records 57th consecutive month of trade surplus

In January 2025 Indonesia recorded its 57th consecutive month of trade surplus, the latest after 56 consecutive months of surplus in the previous month, the trade surplus was due to the value of exports being greater than the value of imports.Indonesia's exports in January 2025 were valued at US$21.45 billion and imports were valued at US$18 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of about US$2.45 billion. The interim head of the Central Statistical Agency (BPS) said that the goods trade surplus in January 2025 was US$3.45 billion, an increase of US$1.21 billion from the previous month, and has been in surplus for 57 consecutive months since May 2020.The trade surplus in January was supported by non-oil commodities, with the main contributing commodities being mineral fuels, animal and vegetable oils and fats, and iron and steel. Meanwhile, the trade deficit in petroleum commodities was $1.43 billion, mainly due to crude oil and petroleum products.
