Indonesia's red chili stocks to be at low levels

印尼红辣椒库存量将处于较低位置

The Director General of Plantation Products Processing and Marketing at the Directorate General of Plantation of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) has revealed that the stock of Indonesian large red chili pepper is at a critically low level, a situation that is expected to last until September 2024....He said stocks of large red chili peppers in Indonesia are at a critical position this month as domestic stocks were low until September this year.Meanwhile, stocks of small chili peppers remain safe, but there will also be a shortage from November to December 2024 due to the drought being experienced in several regions that are centers of chili pepper production, which has led to crop failures, even as some farmers have cleared their land.

While the stock of onion is in a safe position, the only concern is that the price of onion will fall as the main onion producing areas such as Kendal, Brebes and Demak enter the main harvesting season. Currently, onion prices are lower than Bapanas' reference purchase price (HAP), which has been in the range of 18,000 rupiah to 15,000 rupiah and below, and this is something the government needs to pay attention to. The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has set the HAP for red onions at Rp 18,000 to Rp 20,000 per kilogram for wet onions, Rp 25,000 to Rp 30,000 per kilogram for freshly harvested onions, and Rp 32,000 per kilogram for dry harvested onions.
