Detailed Introduction
① Basic Overview and Composition:
The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections is a new ministry split from the former Ministry of Law and Human Rights system after 2024, responsible for immigration, visas, residence permits, entry and exit, foreigner supervision, and correctional affairs. The most relevant parts for businesses are the Directorate General of Immigration and its e-visa, residence permit, and foreigner supervision systems.
② Role and Operation:
The immigration system handles e-visas, E-VOA, business visas, work visas, KITAS, KITAP, entry and exit records, foreigner reports, and immigration enforcement. Foreigners working in Indonesia generally require the Manpower Ministry's RPTKA to be linked with immigration visas and residence permits. The position, company, work location, purpose of stay, and actual activities must be consistent.
③ Uses and Relevance for Chinese-invested Enterprises:
When Chinese-invested enterprises assign Chinese employees, apply for investor visas, work visas, dependant passes, long-term residence, or handle issues such as overstay, position mismatch, or work location inconsistency, they must pay attention to both the immigration and manpower lines. Many enterprise risks do not stem from having no visa, but from inconsistencies between visa type, actual work content, position, location, and company entity, which can easily lead to fines, deportation, blacklisting, or operational disruption.
