Detailed Introduction
① Basic Introduction and Structure:
BSN is Indonesia's national standardization authority, responsible for formulating, publishing, and maintaining SNI national standards. Together with KAN, certification bodies, testing laboratories, and industry authorities, it forms Indonesia's standards conformity assessment system. BSN itself mainly handles the standard system and standardization policies; it is not equivalent to the direct certification authority for all products.
② Department Role and Operation:
BSN develops and updates SNI standards, promotes standards implementation and standardization services. Mandatory SNI is usually stipulated by relevant industry authorities regarding the scope of application, and then conformity assessment is completed through certification bodies, laboratory testing, factory inspection, and labeling. Enterprises need to determine whether their products fall under the mandatory SNI list and follow the certification process according to the corresponding product category.
③ Uses and Relevance for Chinese Enterprises:
For Chinese enterprises exporting steel, cement, toys, helmets, wires and cables, building materials, home appliances, electronic products, machinery, etc. to the Indonesian market, SNI is an important risk point. If the product is subject to mandatory SNI but has not completed certification and labeling, it may be detained by customs, removed from the market, or penalized. Enterprises should confirm HS codes, SNI applicability, and certification lead time before export.
