Indonesia's 21 downstreaming projects worth a total of $618 billion

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources revealed that the National Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) will finance the downstreaming project.In a closed-door meeting with the Task Force on Downstreaming and Energy Sovereignty, President Prabowo decided that the first phase of downstreaming in 2025 would target 21 projects valued at about $618 billion. The first project is the construction of crude oil storage facilities for the country's energy security, as per the presidential decree that Indonesia needs to increase its oil reserves to 30 days, with one of the storage sites to be built on the island of Nipa. The government will also build refineries with a capacity of about 500,000 barrels per day to enhance energy security, and a dimethyl ether project to replace imported liquefied natural gas with low calorific value coal as feedstock. Downstreaming projects also include upgrading the value added to commodities such as copper, nickel and bauxite to alumina, and there are projects to support the country's economic stability in the areas of agriculture, fisheries and forestry, including upgrading the value added to copper, nickel and bauxite processing.
