Indonesia to start banning export of copper concentrates this year

印尼今年开始禁止出口铜精矿

On January 1, 2025, the Indonesian government officially implemented a ban on copper concentrate exports. The ban dashed PT Freeport Indonesia's (PTFI) hopes of extending its license to export copper concentrate following a fire at its processing and refining facility in Gresik JIIPE, Gresik Special Economic Zone (KEK), East Java. The Director General of the Department of Export of Industrial and Mining Products of the Ministry of Trade stated that according to the Minister of Trade Regulation No. 10 of 2024, the list of goods prohibited for export from January 1, 2025 includes copper ores and copper concentrates with specific codes. The Deputy Director of the Information and Publicity Department of the General Customs Administration also indicated that there is currently no change in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No. 06/2024, and therefore copper concentrates will remain on the list of prohibited exports as of 1 January 2025, in accordance with the Trade Minister's Regulation.
