Chinese auto brands continue to grow sales in Indonesia
China's electric car giant, BYD, 2024 saw an increase in car sales in the Indonesian market in October from factory to dealer or wholesale level. According to the latest data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), BYD sold 2,488 electric cars in October this year, up 16.5% YoY. Another Chinese automaker, Wuling, followed suit with a sales increase of up to 9%, with 2,203 cars sold, compared to September 2024 when only 2004 cars were sold. Chery also followed BYD and Wuling, with a sales increase of 699 vehicles or 3.71% YoY. Chinese automakers faced a similar situation to those in several other countries, with branded sales in the Indonesian auto market increasing in October.
However, Gaikindo data shows that overall wholesale level car sales performance by brand for January-October this year was only 710,406 units, down 151 TP3T from 836,128 units in the same period last year.In October 2024, sales at wholesale level reached 77,191 units, down 3.91 TP3T year-on-year.Sales in October 2024 were up 6.21 TP3T to 77,191 units.Wholesale car sales in October 2024: 27,030 Toyota, 14,096 Daihatsu, 8,633 Honda, 5,491 Suzuki, 5,486 Mitsubishi Motors, 2,414 Mitsubishi Fuso, 2,320 Hino, 2,106 Isuzu, 1,711 Hyundai, 2,488 BYD, 2,203 Wuling, 699 Chery Vehicles.
