Indonesia invites China to invest in agricultural plantation industry
The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko marinves) Luhut openly admitted that he was not satisfied with the results of the development of the food industry in the Lumbang Hasundutan area of North Sumatra, and for this reason he invited the Chinese to come in and participate in the Food Warehouse Project initiated by President Joko.Humbang Hasundutan is one of the locations of the food industry parks that are being developed by the government. Besides Central Kalimantan and Central Java, there are also Papua and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). During his fourth meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the High Level Dialogue and Cooperation Mechanism in Labuan Bajo some time ago, he said the development of agricultural plantation industry is one of the areas of cooperation between the two countries.
For example, chili peppers, onions and garlic, as well as durian and fruits are being cooperated with, and the two countries are working together to build a laboratory. Without research, technology transfer cannot be completed. Subsequently the government will build research facilities for crop yields such as chili and green onion with researchers from both countries, there must be a local partner as well.The development of the Humbang Hasundutan Food Industrial Park began in 2022 and the area focuses on agricultural crops such as green onion, garlic, potatoes, cabbage, and chili peppers. Citing data from the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), as of June 2023, the cumulative area under cultivation at Humbahas Food Estate has reached 482.84 hectares.
