Exploring a New Era: Opportunities and Challenges for Chinese Companies Investing in Southeast Asia

探索新时代:中资企业在东南亚投资的机遇与挑战

On February 28th, a forum titled "Mining and Gaming: Opportunities and Challenges of Investing in Southeast Asian Countries" was successfully held in Beijing. Guided by the China Friendship Promotion Association and organized by the Thailand-China Friendship Relations Association, the event attracted more than 100 representatives from government, academia and business to discuss the investment prospects of Chinese enterprises in ASEAN countries.

With the transformation of the economy in the twenty-first century, the traditional mode of resource extraction is gradually being retired, and the demand for new energy and rare metals is surging. In response to this change, a new investment strategy based on the trinity of resource cooperation, infrastructure construction and production capacity cooperation is gradually taking shape. At the same time, resource-rich countries such as Chile and Peru have adjusted their mining policies in response to economic pressures, and Chinese enterprises are facing new challenges in overseas investment.

In his keynote speech at the conference, Chen Jiabin analyzed in detail the impact of global geopolitics on mining investment and proposed strategies to avoid risks. Experts believe that Chinese new energy companies should strengthen their supply chains in overseas markets, build a healthy industrial ecology, and ease policy pressure by promoting local economic development. Long Pengyu showed how Chinese companies can achieve success overseas, citing the example of a cement project in Indonesia.

During the roundtable discussion, industry experts and business leaders had in-depth exchanges on how to promote international production capacity cooperation and jointly build a new benchmark for high-quality "Belt and Road". The experts put forward a number of suggestions to help Chinese enterprises capture the global development opportunities of the new energy automobile industry.

In the face of the complexity of the Southeast Asian market, Chinese companies need to have a deep understanding of the local culture and laws, and implement precise market strategies in order to become long-termist companies with a global perspective.
