The Indonesian Embassy in China, in collaboration with the Hunan Provincial People's Government and the Hunan Sub-Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, recently held the Indonesia-China (Changsha) Business Forum in Changsha. With the theme "Shared Resilience, Shared Future – Investing for Sustainable Partnership", the forum attracted approximately 200 Chinese and Indonesian companies. Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun pointed out in his opening remarks that confidence among China's business community in Indonesia's economic development prospects continues to rise. In recent years, many Hunan enterprises have invested and succeeded in Indonesia, setting a positive example and encouraging more Chinese companies to expand into Indonesia, with growing trade and investment data fully confirming this trend.
Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun stated that in 2025, total bilateral trade between Indonesia and China reached USD 167.48 billion, with Indonesian exports to China growing 16.7%; investment from mainland China and Hong Kong in Indonesia reached USD 18.1 billion, making China Indonesia's largest source of foreign investment. During a panel discussion moderated by Indonesia's Deputy Ambassador to China, participants explored cooperation potential between Indonesia and Hunan in key areas such as connectivity and logistics, energy infrastructure and renewable energy grids, mineral downstream processing, green economy, and health and biotechnology.
The forum resulted in four new cooperation intentions: China Mining (Shanxi) Energy Group will provide human resources development projects for Indonesia; China Mining will conduct collaborative research with Gadjah Mada University and the Indonesian government; Pingalax Company will provide battery storage assistance to Indonesia; and China Mining (Shanxi) Energy Group will establish cooperation with three Indonesian companies in the bauxite and alumina processing sector. In addition, the Investment Promotion Center of the Indonesian Embassy held one-on-one business matchmaking sessions with over 60 Hunan entrepreneurs, facilitating precise project connections.
This forum is a key initiative by the Indonesian Embassy to deepen economic and trade cooperation with Chinese local governments, aiming to leverage Hunan's advantages in manufacturing, construction, and technology to expand comprehensive cooperation. During his visit to Changsha, Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun also met with the Vice Governor of Hunan Province, exchanging views on further strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and Hunan in economy, trade, society, and culture, laying the foundation for subsequent practical cooperation.
