A reception ceremony was recently held at Qinzhou Port in Guangxi, marking the official entry of Indonesia's first sea-shipment of frozen durian into the Chinese market, an important step in expanding bilateral agricultural trade between the two countries.
The shipment carried 23 tons of Indonesian frozen durian pulp and puree, departing from Jakarta Port on December 26, 2025, clearing customs on January 5, and arriving at the bonded warehouse of Qinzhou Comprehensive Bonded Zone, thereby establishing a direct sea logistics route from Indonesian production areas to the Chinese market.
Previously, Indonesian frozen durian had only entered China in small quantities via air freight. With mature shipping routes and cold chain logistics, future supplies of Indonesian frozen durian to China will be more stable and larger in scale, injecting new momentum into China-Indonesia economic and trade cooperation.
The company's general manager stated that this batch of durian will be processed into value-added products such as frozen durian pulp and freeze-dried durian.
The enterprise has invested 30 million yuan in building a full-industry-chain intelligent durian processing plant, integrating technologies such as AI hyperspectral sorting, liquid nitrogen quick-freezing, and freeze-drying to achieve standardized production and overcome industry pain points like low manual sorting efficiency and uneven quality.
He also noted that the company aims to use durian imports as a model to explore standardized and replicable pathways for importing and processing specialty agricultural products from ASEAN.
Previously, Indonesian durian had to be processed through a third country before entering China. This restriction was lifted in May 2025 after the General Administration of Customs of China and the Indonesian quarantine authority signed a phytosanitary protocol.
The Trade Counselor of the Indonesian Embassy in China stated that this move demonstrates the close and stable trade relationship between the two countries. Currently, eight Indonesian companies have obtained qualifications to export frozen durian to China, and both sides are advancing negotiations on market access for fresh durian. Indonesia's diverse durian varieties and processed products can meet Chinese consumer demand.
