Tencent Cloud to invest in third data center in Indonesia

Tencent Cloud has announced that it will build its third data center in Indonesia to strengthen its presence in the country. The move is part of its plan to invest about $500 million in infrastructure and resources in Indonesia by 2030.
The announcement was made in November 2024 at the Indonesia-China Business Forum, which was also attended by President Prabowo. Tencent is committed to empowering local enterprises to drive innovation, improve competitiveness and achieve business goals through advanced cloud, artificial intelligence and media solutions, said the company's senior executive vice president and CEO of Cloud and Intelligent Industry Business Group. Tencent Cloud is the cloud computing services arm of Tencent, one of China's largest technology companies, offering a wide range of cloud-based solutions including data storage, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cybersecurity and cloud gaming services. The new data center will complement existing facilities and combine with Tencent Cloud's network of over 50 availability zones in 21 regions around the world. In addition Tencent Cloud has partnered with GoTo Group, a large digital ecosystem in Indonesia, to strengthen cloud infrastructure and develop domestic digital talent to ensure GoTo's data is stored in the country. In recent years, Indonesia has become one of the leading destinations for global tech companies to build data centers, thanks to the rapid growth of the digital economy, increased use of cloud services, and government regulations requiring specific data to be stored in the country. Tech giants such as Google have also invested in building data centers in Indonesia, which not only enhance digital infrastructure but also open up new opportunities for artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and startup ecosystems. With the support of government policies, the trend of investment in data centers in Indonesia is expected to continue to grow.
