Indonesia's Rp 267 trillion mineral downstream investment needs 5 GW of electricity
Mining holding company MIND ID plans to invest 267 trillion dong to support four of its members' downstream projects until 2029, a budget that has been planned for a long time. The product director said the project would require a lot of energy, at least 5 GW of power by 2029, but this demand was not included in the PLN power supply plan and would have to build its own power plant, not counting ancillary needs such as roads and housing.
The downstream bauxite project in West Kalimantan, for example, although limited in production, has already boosted local per capita GDP to double digits, benefiting restaurants, boarding houses, etc., and could contribute to regional economic growth in the future. It would be too much of a burden for companies to bear, and all parties need to work together to support President Prabowo's downstream program. At present, the government wants to strengthen the downstream development but lack of electricity, the provision of primary energy has become the first task of industrial planning.
