Complete list of twenty special economic zones throughout Indonesia

At the end of his term in October 2024, President Joko designated two Special Economic Zones (SEZs), KEKs, which are areas with certain boundaries to perform economic functions and to acquire certain facilities. KEKs became regulated with the enactment of the 2009 law on SEZs. The government established KEKs to accelerate the country's equitable development, believing that the development of SEZs around the country would be beneficial in fostering new centers of economic growth with high competitiveness.The KEK policy is also considered to have an important role to play in increasing investment, which in turn can contribute to the equitable development of the region. As of the first half of 2024, a total of 22 SEZs have achieved positive results, realizing a cumulative investment of 205.2 trillion rupiah. The following is the list of SEZs as of October 9, 2024: Banten International Education, Technology and Health Special Zone (BITEZ), located in Tangerang, Banten Province, operates in the fields of education and international health services with the development of digital technology. Covering an area of 59.68 hectares, it has an investment realization target of 18.8 trillion rupiah when fully operational and can absorb 13,446 workers. The plan will be an international education center operating with Monash University to become one of the best universities in the world; Batam International Health Tourism Special Zone has just been established in October 2024 with a target investment of up to Rp 6.91 trillion and is expected to absorb 105,406 workers. Apollo Hospitals India, as the main investor, is committed to completing the construction of international standard healthcare services and upgrading the level of medical tourism, with a target completion and operation in 2026, which is expected to save up to Rp 500 billion in foreign exchange; Arun Lhokseumawe Special Zone is located in the province of Aceh, covering an area of about 2,662 hectares, and has been in operation since December 14, 2018. The main activities include energy industry, petrochemical and other chemical industries, palm oil processing industry, timber processing industry, and logistics; Sei Mangkei Special Zone is located in North Sumatra Province, covers an area of 2002 hectares, belongs to the industry and tourism industry, and the main activities include palm oil processing industry, rubber processing, tourism, and logistics.
KEK Batam Aero Technic was established in June 2021 in Batam, Riau Islands Province. The area covers an area of 30 hectares and is part of the Industrial Special Zone, designed for the aircraft maintenance and repair industry; KEK Galang Batang covers an area of approximately 2,333 hectares and only began operations on December 8, 2018, entering the Industrial Special Zone in preparation for its main activities in the form of bauxite processing and logistics; KEK Kendal is located in the province of Central Java and was formally operational in May 2021 . It covers an area of 1,000 hectares and is part of the Special Industrial Zone. It has a number of main activities in the form of textile and garment industry, furniture and gaming equipment industry, food and beverage industry, automotive industry, electronics industry, and logistics; KEK Gresik is located in East Java province, with an area of 2,167 hectares categorized under the Industrial Sector, which starts operating in November 2022, and has a number of main activities in the form of metal industry, electronics industry, chemical industry, energy industry, and logistics; KEK Maloy Batuta Trans Kalimantan (MBTK) is a 557-hectare area in East Kalimantan province designated by the government. The area is classified as a special industrial zone and has been operating since April 2019, with main activities including palm oil processing industry, energy industry and logistics; KEK Palu is located in Central Sulawesi province and has been operating since September 2017. It covers an area of 1,500 hectares and is an industrial special zone, aiming to carry out the main activities such as base metal industry and logistics; KEK Bitung is in North Sulawesi province and covers an area of 534 hectares. Operating since April 2019, it is categorized as a special industrial zone with main activities including coconut processing industry, fishery processing industry and logistics.
KEK Nongsa is located in Batam City and was established in June 2021, the industrial special zone covers 166 hectares and aims to carry out key activities such as digital parks and tourism; KEK Sorong covers 523 hectares and is located in West Papua has been in operation since October 2019 and has a number of key activities including the nickel processing industry, palm oil processing industry, forest products industry, and sago plantations and logistics; KEK Tanjung Kelayang is located in Bangka Belitung province and has been in operation since March 2019 With an area of approximately 324 hectares, it falls under the category of Special Tourism Zone (STZ) and its main activities are exploring tourist attractions and accommodation; KEK Lido, located in Bogor regency, West Java, is classified as a Special Tourism Zone (STZ) and covers an area of 1,040 hectares, with its main activities being tourism and the creative industry; and KEK Tanjung Lesung, which falls under the category of Special Tourism Zone (STZ), is located in the province of Banten. This 1,500-hectare area has been in operation since February 2015; KEK Singhasari is located in East Java province and 120 hectares are classified as a Special Tourism Zone, intended for the main activities of the tourism sector and technological development; KEK Mandalika is located in the province of Nusa Tara, West Nusa Tara, and has been in operation since October 2017. The area of 1,035 hectares belongs to the tourism sector and is intended for the main activities of the tourism sector; KEK Sanur is located in the province of Bali and covers an area of 41.26 hectares and is classified as the health and tourism sector; KEK Morotai is located in the province of North Maluku and covers an area of 1,110 hectares and has been operating since April 2019, with the main activities of the tourism sector, the fishery-processing industry, and logistics; KEK Likupang is designed as a special tourism zone and is located in North Sulawesi province with 197 hectares; KEK Kura-Kura Bali is engaged in the field of tourism and creative industries and is located in the province of Bali with 498 hectares; KEK Setangga is located in the province of South Kalimantan and is engaged in the manufacturing industry with an area of 668.3 hectares; KEK Tanjung Sauh is located on the Riau Islands, covering an area of 840.67 hectares.
