Indonesia's policy to crack down on illegal imports will last at least a year

The Director General of Consumer Protection and Orderly Business (PKTN) at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) said the task force to monitor illegal imports would be valid for one year, and that the government could extend the work period and also add more products if necessary.The task force is composed of relevant ministries and agencies and law enforcement officials and receives direct instructions from the Minister of Trade. They are already aware of the locations commonly used for smuggling illegally imported goods. The Minister of Trade previously met with the Attorney General and the National Police Commissioner to request support for the formation of the task force. The Ministry of Trade will also coordinate with the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police (Bareskrim) and the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance. The task force will work with these agencies and will be tasked with carrying out regular, specialized and comprehensive supervision.
The Minister of Trade warned to be careful of the illegal import trade and that the government has begun to crack down on all illegal imports.The Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) and the National Police will assist the Ministry of Trade in enforcing laws and regulations on illegal imports, and the power to sanction illegal importers has been transferred to legal officers. He has also been informed of locations that are commonly used as routes for illegal imports, including Banten, Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, North Sumatra, Batam and South Sulawesi, and has also been informed of the methods used to smuggle illegally imported goods.
