China becomes North Sumatra's largest source of imports

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) noted that the volume of imported goods from China into North Sumatra has increased. Until April 2024, imported goods from China into North Sumatra amounted to 88.5 million dollars, valued at 1.4 trillion rupiah.According to BPS North Sumatra, imports from China to North Sumatra increased by 21.29% from March to reach US$72.9 million, valued at 1.18 trillion rupiah.The head of BPS North Sumatra said that imports from China amounted to US$88.5 million, or 20.45%, followed by Singapore in second place.
Apart from China, North Sumatra's largest imports came from Singapore amounting to 1.1 trillion rupiah, followed by the United States at 540.7 billion rupiah. Overall, as of April 2024, imports into North Sumatra amounted to about $432.8 million worth 7.05 trillion rupiah. Compared to March 2024, the volume of imports into North Sumatra declined, amounting to US$455.8 million, valued at Rp 7.42 trillion. The largest imports came from fossil fuels, amounting to $91.2 million or worth 1.48 trillion rupiah, followed by wheat worth $49.7 million or 809.8 billion rupiah. Compared to March 2024, the value of wheat imports dropped by 30.8% to $71.9 million or worth 1.17 trillion dong.
