Indonesia's Danantara Investment Authority (Danantara Indonesia) announced the selected partners for the first two municipal waste-to-energy (WtE) projects, with Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd. responsible for the project in Bekasi City, Banten, and Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co., Ltd. responsible for the project in Denpasar City.
This cooperation aligns with the Presidential Decree and is an important part of the municipal waste management project, aimed at reducing dependence on landfills and promoting sustainable energy utilization. According to requirements, the selected operators must form consortia with local government-owned enterprises and Indonesian local companies to facilitate technology transfer; the Investment Authority implements strict governance from the project's early stages, ensuring project quality through a transparent, risk-mitigation-based screening process.
The Investment Authority's Chief Investment Officer stated that selecting operators is a key step to ensuring that waste-to-energy facilities meet high standards in operational reliability, safety, and accountability. The Authority will continue to cooperate with local governments and relevant stakeholders to support clean energy generation while reducing waste, promote integrated waste management solutions, and bring positive impacts to the environment and the Indonesian people. Operators are required to maintain stable operations, comply with regulations, and continuously engage with society.
Previously, the Investment Authority announced 24 pre-screened candidate suppliers, including 9 Chinese companies; in the initial phase, a total of 21 proposals were received, with some companies bidding for projects in multiple cities such as Denpasar, Bekasi, Bogor, and Yogyakarta. All participating companies must work with local partners, among which 4 local partners are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The winning companies will proceed with project planning and construction according to the proposals submitted.
