Chinese brand Transn leads growth in Indonesia's low-end and mid-range cell phone market

Sales of high-end phones (priced above $600) in Indonesia declined by 9.21 TP3T in 2024 due to the banning of the iPhone 16 series in the country.The average selling price of cell phones fell by 0.5% year-on-year. iPhone 16 has not been sold in Indonesia so far due to Apple's failure to meet domestic ingredient requirements. Despite Apple's commitment to build Airtag factory in Batam, it is not related to TKDN certification. The ban has had a negative impact on Apple and its partners.The overall smartphone market in Indonesia grew by 15.5% in 2024, with the fastest growth being in the low-end market, dominated by Transsion (Infinix, Itel, Tecno). The mid-range market also grew by 24.9%, with only the high-end market declining.Transsion's market share reached 18.3% in 2024, an increase of 61.7%.The 5G market grew significantly, rising to 25.8% from 17.1% in 2023, dominated by Samsung.The top five smartphone market shares in Indonesia in 2024, in order of magnitude, were Transsion ( 18.3%), Oppo (17.8%), Samsung (16.5%), Xiaomi (15.3%), and Vivo (14.8%).
