Indonesia's coal production hits record high for second year in a row

Indonesia's coal production reaches a record high of 836 million tons in 2024.Production in 2023 was 775 million tons, also the highest at the time. 2024 actual production exceeded the target, reaching 1,17% of the target of 710 million tons. the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources said that of the coal production in 2024, 555 million tons will be used for export, 233 million tons will satisfy the domestic demand, and the remaining 48 million tons will be in stockpiles. The total global coal usage is about 8 billion to 8.5 billion tons, but the market circulation is about 1 billion to 1.5 billion tons. Indonesian coal will have a systemic impact if export policies are tightened. Compared to 2023, coal production in 2024 increased by 7.81 TP3T.Of the 775 million tons produced in 2023, 518 million tons were exported, 213 million tons were used domestically, and 44 million tons were stockpiled.
