Prabowo Witnesses Huawei Boosting Renewable Energy Development in Indonesia
Indonesia's national power company PLN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two Chinese companies, Huawei and Guotou Power, this signing taking place during President Prabowo's recent visit to China.The memorandum of understanding aims to help Indonesia achieve energy self-sufficiency and facilitate the country's transition to renewable energy. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prabowo said that Indonesia and China have built a strong partnership in the energy sector and that Indonesia also seeks to achieve energy self-sufficiency through cooperation with other countries, including China. President Prabowo said the cooperation opens a new chapter in Indonesia's economic relations with China and lays a solid foundation for sustainable development in various fields, including energy and technology. The president of Pertamina said the company seeks to work with global partners to realize Indonesia's goal of sustainable energy self-sufficiency. They value their strategic cooperation with Huawei and Guodian Power, who will continue to be reliable partners in developing green energy. This synergy underscores their strong commitment to working with international partners to increase energy independence, which will be an economic driver for the people of Indonesia.
Under an agreement with Huawei Technologies Investment, the two companies have agreed to work together on a study to accelerate the digital transformation of the power sector. The collaboration will help optimize the power sector, improve efficiency and enable cybersecurity. It will also contribute to Indonesia's energy transition through the development of solar energy, microgrid systems, hybrid power plants and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Pertamina's director of corporate planning and business development said the partnership is not only about strengthening infrastructure, but also about empowering Pertamina's employees through knowledge sharing and capacity building for the digital transformation of power generation, an initiative that is in line with the broader agenda of energy transformation. The deal with Guotou Power is centered around the Mamberamo hydropower project in Papua, and the two parties will also conduct a joint study on the commercial, technical, legal and risk aspects of the hydropower plant. Through the cooperation with Guotou Power, they plan to strengthen Pertamina's technical and managerial capabilities in the development of the Mamberamo hydropower plant. The collaboration is part of Pertamina's commitment to increase the use of renewable energy while expanding access to clean and sustainable energy for the people of Papua and beyond.
