China Becomes Major Source of Indonesia's Garment Imports

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) noted that apparel imports increased in July 2024, especially from China.Monthly imports of knitted garments and accessories (HS 61) rose by 55.461 TP3T. Meanwhile, non-knitted garments and accessories (HS 62) rose by 29.911 TP3T. HS 61 came mainly from China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkey and Italy. Almost equally, most of the HS 62 imports came from China, followed by Bangladesh, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China and Morocco.

Meanwhile, footwear imports from China increased by 21.541 TP3T year-on-year and 7.371 TP3T month-on-month.However, Indonesia's largest imports from China were not apparel and footwear but machinery and mechanical equipment and their parts and components (HS 84), with imports valued at US$1.55 billion. The second largest was electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof, valued at $1.27 billion.
