Indonesia to rectify illegal imports for half a year, says PDA

The members of the Task Force are drawn from 11 ministries and agencies of the Government of Indonesia, namely: the Ministry of Trade; the Attorney General's Office; the Indonesian National Police; the Ministry of Finance; the Ministry of Industry; the Ministry of Law and Human Rights; the National Intelligence Agency; the National Agency for Drugs and Food Control; the Maritime Security Agency of the Indonesian Navy; the competent trade authorities at the provincial, district and municipal levels; and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Indonesia's Trade Minister said the establishment of a special task force is imperative, such as Indonesia's textile industry because of the impact of a large number of illegal imports, many textile factories closed down, a large number of workers lost their jobs. Some products or no SNI Indonesia national standard certification, or no BPOM certification, also harmed the rights and interests of Indonesian consumers. The Task Force has focused on seven categories of commodities, namely, textiles and textile products, clothing and apparel accessories, ceramics, electronic products, footwear, cosmetics and other finished textile products, with the focus on the warehouses of importers and distributors.

Trade Minister Zukifiri Hassan said that members of the working group will check the business licenses of the relevant practitioners, the certification permits of the goods they deal with, and clarify the alleged irregularities committed by the practitioners before taking legal action in accordance with the law. The working group, which will combine regular routine monitoring with ad hoc monitoring based on public complaints at any time, will officially begin its work on July 23 at the earliest.
