Xu Liping is a researcher at the Institute of Asia-Pacific and Global Strategy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), a doctoral supervisor, and the director of the Asia-Pacific Society and Culture Research Office. Main research areas: Asia-Pacific society and culture, Southeast Asian politics and international relations, non-traditional security. Main academic works: China's View of Contemporary Neighboring Countries, Globalization and the Society and Culture of Neighboring Countries, Indonesia: Emerald on the Equator, Contemporary Islam in Southeast Asia: Development and Challenges.

Description

This is the first Chinese critical biography of Indonesian President Joko. The book goes from the birth of President Joko all the way to Joko's success in running for the presidency, how to municipalization, leading Indonesia as a country to reform and build up the country politically and economically in the hope of building Indonesia into the fifth BRIC country. The book shows the characteristics of the Indonesian president through ten chapters: born a civilian, youthful frustration, love and family, commitment to the business world, politics in Solo, new politics in the capital, elected president, maritime power, facing up to challenges, and pragmatic diplomacy.
