A new aluminum smelter in West Kalimantan

Kayong Utara (Suara Kalbar)-Penebang Island, which is part of Pelapis Village, Karimata Islands District, Kayong Utara Sub-district, is included in the Strategic Plan of the Nation (PSN) as a smelter will be constructed there to process bauxite ore into alumina.The smelter is three times the size of WHW in Kendawangan area, Ketapang district, and will require 5,300 workers. The investment, which will cost between 50 trillion and 59 trillion dong, will see the market value of (PAD) Kayong Utara soar above 100 billion dong, and is expected to start operations in 2027.
