China, India plan to collaborate on Batam LRT

The Batam Authority promoted a range of investment opportunities in Batam to China's leading company, China Railway Engineering Construction Company (CREC).CREC, a company responsible for railroad construction projects in China and overseas, has successfully constructed the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Rail project and has extensive experience in urban construction, helping to develop many overseas cities. The two sides expect this meeting to be the beginning of CREC's investment in Batam, possibly spearheading projects such as the construction of the Batam Light Rail Transit (LRT), as well as the construction of the Trans-Batam Highway and the Garang Island Seawall, among other things, in support of national strategic projects. With a population of 1.3 million, Batam is classified as a big city and needs modern transportation support, CREC representatives expressed their appreciation for the investment opportunity in Batam and believed that with the LRT facilities, Batam could become an advanced city like Shenzhen in China.
