The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized 235 types of illegally imported cosmetic products with hazardous ingredients valued at about Rp 8.91 billion in the districts of Banten, West Java, Central Java and East Java.Most of these cosmetics are distributed and promoted through online channels such as e-commerce, mainly from China, but also partly from the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and India. Most of the illegal cosmetics contained hazardous ingredients such as mercury and rhodamine B dyes. Evidence such as raw materials and semi-finished products of illegally produced cosmetics were also seized, and production activities were carried out by producers without authorization to manufacture cosmetics or pharmaceuticals. These illegal products containing dangerous ingredients were distributed to beauty clinics in Java. They reminded companies to comply with regulations and called on the public to adopt the method of checking packaging, labels, circulation permits and expiry dates before purchasing or using cosmetics, and not to be easily influenced by over-advertising.
