Major projects in Indonesia's new capital started construction

President Joko held a groundbreaking ceremony for the sixth phase of the project on June 4-5, 2024, during his inspection of the development process in the new national capital (IKN).In addition to this, Joko will also review the preparations for the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Indonesia, which is planned to be held at IKN. Joko has also directly initiated several projects, and the first phase of the IKN has now completed 80% and is expected to be completed in the near future. Below are a few of the major projects in the IKN that were initiated by Joko: Sepaku Semoi Dam is one of the IKN Phase 1 projects. The development project, costing Rp836 billion, started in 2020 and will be completed in 2024. Joko also inaugurated the dam on June 4, which will serve as a source of drinking water for IKN.The Sepaku Semoi Dam has a considerable capacity of 16 million cubic meters and a pool area of 322 hectares. Following the inauguration of the Sepaku Semoi Dam, Joko performed a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Astra Biz Center and the Nusantara Botanical Gardens.The Astra Biz Center-IKN, which covers an area of 3.4 hectares, is expected to increase the Astra Group's contribution to the development of business centers and to encourage the growth of the local economy.The Astra Biz Center-IKN will serve as a hub for the Astra Biz Center-IKN will serve as a service center for 11 brands of group companies including Astra Motor, Auto2000, Astra Daihatsu, FIFGROUP, Astra Insurance, ACC, TAF, United Tractors, ASTRA Infra, SERA and Astra Property.
At the same time, the Nusantara Consortium is also constructing a botanical garden at KIPP IKN, which will provide a protected area and an educational tourism destination on 211 hectares, with the first phase of the development focusing on an orchid collection, an orchid research center, and an orchid pavilion. Other facilities such as a visitor center, café and MSME corner have also been constructed to make Nusantara Botanical Garden one of the educational destinations in Xindu. The first phase of the Nusantara Botanical Gardens development will emphasize research, education and environmental tourism functions, with subsequent phases planned to focus on conservation and environmental services. The consortium also involves 11 other companies, namely Agung Sedayu Group, Salim Group, Sinarmas, Pulau Intan, Djarum, Wings Group, Adaro, Barito Pacific, Mulia Group, Kawan Lama and Alfamart .
In his speech, the President emphasized the importance of investment for the future of IKN, arguing that an investment in IKN Nusantara is a purchase of the future, and therefore stressed the importance of accelerating the development of infrastructure, such as toll roads and airports, in order to support the accessibility of IKN. The President also emphasized the importance of current investment support to achieve the development vision of Indonesia's capital. In the field of education, Gunadarma University is the first university to be established in IKN. The university will be the first higher education center in IKN to conduct international doctoral programs in cooperation with universities in France, Slovakia and Sweden. In primary, middle and high school education, Indonesia is working with Al Azhar Summarecon and Bina Bangsa International School. The school uses the Cambridge curriculum and aims to improve the quality of children's education and encourage the improvement of IKN's human resources. He believed that the human resources thus possessed would be of very high quality, as there was currently competition between countries, and the competition for human resources among those countries was very intense.
Not only educational facilities, Joko has also initiated the construction of 10 roads around IKN with a total length of 50.9 kilometers. The project cost Rp 561 billion and is part of the directive on regional roads.On December 20, 2023, Joko inaugurated the construction of Nusantara Superblock, a super luxury area with an investment worth Rp 3 trillion. He was interested in having investors from East Kalimantan who are participating in the development of the new capital city. The area includes five-star hotels, four-star hotels, condominiums, entertainment centers, office buildings and international schools. In Xindu was also built the training center of the Indonesian national soccer team, which held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 22, 2023 star. The construction of this sports facility was funded by the government and FIFA, with the government allocating Rp 95 billion from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN), FIFA providing Rp 85.6 billion in grant funds to PSSI, and FIFA Forward allocating funds specifically for the construction of the IKN National Training Center.
