BYD invests 16 trillion rupiah to build plant in West Java, Indonesia
BYD, a Chinese car brand specializing in pure electric vehicles (BEVs), announced that it will build a factory in Indonesia, which will be located in Subang, West Java. In order to build this factory, the investment amounted to Rp 16 trillion. The finalization of the project emerged after PT BYD Motor Indonesia (BYD) signed a cooperation agreement with PT Suryabuat Swadaya, the developer of the Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Zone. Through multiple evaluations, BYD concluded that Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Estate is the best location for BYD to develop its electric vehicle industry in Indonesia. The industrial zone meets the criteria in terms of size, distance, environment and infrastructure, so the completed facilities will be able to contribute to the development of Indonesia's automotive industry and the transition to clean energy, as well as support the country's economy, especially in the neighboring regions. They have full confidence in these facilities. In terms of investment value, the company has prepared a large budget to tap into the Indonesian automotive market. The budget includes a research and development center as well as training facilities using the latest energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies. However, they were unable to disclose the groundbreaking date for the Indonesian plant, which is currently targeting a manufacturing capacity of 150,000 units per year, and aiming for a total investment of more than $1 billion in Indonesia.

The next step after the signing of the agreement between the two parties is the handover of the land, which will take place in August 2024. BYD is planning to gradually develop the operation, which is expected to start in January 2026.
